Explanatory notes

The following notes provide some background which may aid users’ understanding of the information contained in the reports.

  1. The reports are based on data that is currently available and provided by suppliers.
  2. The reports will only list products and locations where there is trading activity in a given period.
  3. The entitlement reports include only entitlements that are tradeable with a reported volume greater than 0 and measured in ML.
  4. The entitlement trades are reported when the trade is registered, not at time of application or approval.
  5. The allocation trades are reported when the trade is approved, not at time of application.
  6. In trade price reports, trades with a reported unit price (price/ML) of less than $1 are excluded to improve calculation of the price data.
  7. The price is based on net water price reported by suppliers (sale price minus transaction costs). This price is taken from the approval to trade form.
  8. For cross boundary trade (e.g. interstate trade), only the outbound trade contributes to the total.
  9. Trades in water delivery rights are not represented on this website.
  10. Trades in irrigation rights are reported where data has been supplied.
  11. The locations represented in these reports are generally split to 3 geographical levels (water system > water resource plan area > trading zone). Please note, however, that some states may use only one or two of these geographical levels, which may affect how the data is displayed and aggregated.
