External water market reports

The National Water Commission (NWC) published annual water market reports between 2007-08 and 2012-13. Under the Abolition Act 2015, reporting commitments and the gathering of statistical data previously undertaken by the NWC was transferred to the Productivity Commission, the Bureau of Meteorology and the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resources Economics and Sciences (ABARES). Examples of the NWC's old reports can be found at:

More recently ABARES has released two reports on Water Markets:

Victoria, Queensland and South Australia publish their own water trading data. Click the links below to see water trade data for each State.

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources publishes reports on the average prices of offers pursued from recent Australian Government water entitlement purchasing tenders.

See Department of Agriculture and Water Resources' Average prices of offers pursued from recent tenders  page.

To inform the water entitlement purchasing program, the Australian Government commissions quarterly Murray-Darling Basin Water Entitlement reports. The reports list the volume weighted average prices for water entitlement transfers in the Murray-Darling Basin, drawing on information from the State water registers of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia and from Murray Irrigation Limited's water exchange. The reports (from September quarter 2009) also include buyer bid and seller ask prices identified from surveys of water brokers and water trading exchanges in the southern Murray-Darling Basin.
